- Oct 25, 2009 · im not too worried. im just curious to as why every other car i have ever heard, every other dsm i have heard, all release pressure at the bov when revving. everything in the engine has less than 10k miles on it so i dont think anything should really be too worn. thanks for the help again.

- Feb 04, 2012 · 1: I have started hearing a whine coming from the engine compartment that increase/decreases with engine RPM. For those that are familiar with CB radios, it sounds just like alternator whine on a CB. Putting it into Neutral and revving confirmed it isnt the transaxle.
- With automatic transmissions, the engine is energizing or driving the transmission to move in the direction of the gear you've selected--forward or reverse. When you keep it in gear, you are telling your vehicle to move; when you're on the brakes, you're preventing motion.
- Some trucks with the 6.0 diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power/no boost concern. The variable geometry turbo (VGT) actuator should be checked for operation: The engine should be at operating temperature. With the engine running and the engine in park/neutral, use WDS to control engine speed to 1200 RPM.
- It sounds like worn bearings in one of the belt driven pulleys. If the noise goes away when you start the engine from cold without the serpentine drivebelt, this will confirm the diagnosis. Then you can spin each pulley manually and see which one makes a grinding noise.

It's definitely not the turbo and can be heard in gear or in neutral by revving the engine. Mine doesn't make sound until over 3k RPM however. Just looking for an update before I mention this to a dealer. Since 2 years ago there is a whining noise coming from the engine area on startup. Initially it would go away after 2 or 3 minutes driving or idling but now stays on for approximately 5 or 6 minutes. Can you give me some leads as to where this noise may be coming from. Aside from the transmission, other common causes of a whining noise coming from your car as you drive include the following; a low level of steering fluid, loose or worn out belts, or tapered wheel bearings. The answer was a definite no. They said you could rev an engine all day long in neutral without causing any damage. So, don't sweat it. We all do the nice miss-shift from first to second over-rev move. It's embarrasing as hell, but it happens to everyone. just don't worry about damaging the engine.

The "hard cases" just keep standing on the pedal and let the clutch out slowly; the more delicate riders go back to neutral, let the clutch back out and start the process over.
I recently noticed a whining noise during acceleration and it seemed to only happen when it rained. Further investigation has revealed that it happens only when the car fan is on (I.e., defroster or ac fan w/o cold air) and the sound occurs both during acceleration and when the car is in neutral.
